The Arizona State University Hockey team won the second and final game of its weekend series against Oklahoma last night at Oceanside, 6-3.
The game started off with both teams playing very physical hockey. This play resulted in the first few goals of the game.
On the power play, Chad Hudson put the Sooners ahead 1-0 just over two minutes into the game.
Five minutes later, ASU’s Darcy Charrois would tie the game at 1-1 on a power play goal.
With just over seven minutes left in the 1st period, Oklahoma would re-take the lead on a goal by Justin King, who had a hat trick the night before.
The last minute of the first period would result in the largest momentum swing of the entire game. With forty-two seconds left, Dave Jantzie tied the game up for the Sun Devils. Then off of a rebound with only three seconds on the clock, Troy Scott would backhand in a go-ahead goal to send the Devils into the intermission with a 3-2 lead.
The second period was mostly uneventful until a goal by Marcus Wilhite with just over six minutes left that put the Sun Devils up 4-2.
In the third period the Devils started to run away from the Sooners when Wilhite scored his second of the night with just under 15 minutes remaining that put ASU up 5-2.
However, Oklahoma would not go down without a fight. With just under eight minutes left, Sooner captain Blake Martin put in a power play goal to bring Oklahoma within 2. However, a minute later ASU’s Patrick Rogan would put in ASU’s 6th goal of the night to put the game out of reach.
ASU is back in action next weekend as the Sun Devils take on the Rhode Island Rams. The first game is Friday night at 7:30pm. The second game on Saturday night is at 6:15pm. Both games are at Oceanside Arena in Tempe. You can listen to Saturday’s game right here on The Blaze 1330 AM.
