Good evening, and welcome inside Staples Center for the Pac-10 Tournament. We’re about 10 minutes away from the tip-off between Arizona State and Oregon. The Sun Devils swept the Ducks this season, winning 60-55 in Eugene, and 73-53 last week in Tempe. The winner of this game will face UCLA in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Oregon is listed as a 2.5 point favorite.
Here are tonight’s starting lineups
Oregon: Garrett Sim, Malcolm Armstead, E.J. Singler, Tyrone Nared and Joevon Catron
Arizona State: Jamelle McMillan, Ty Abbott, Kyle Cain, Trent Lockett and Rihards Kuksiks
First Half
15:30- First media timeout of the game, and Oregon leads 11-9. Jamelle McMillan and Trent Lockett have combined for all 9 ASU points. Both teams are shooting the ball well. Oregon is definitely setting the tempo early on.
15:01- Ruslan Pateev and Chanse Creekmur check in for the first time, and Creekmur promptly hits a three out of the timeout
11:55- We’ve reached the under-12 timeout, and Oregon has an 18-15 lead, thanks to a 7-0 run. E.J. Singler is leading Oregon early on with 7 points on 3-of-3 shooting.
8:32- Jamelle McMillan had 11 points in last week’s matchup against Oregon. He’s already got 11 points in this first half, but the Ducks still lead, 27-25.
7:16- Oregon has a 29-25 lead at the under-8 timeout. The Ducks are 6-of-8 from three and 11-of-19 overall.
3:22- Final media timeout of the half, and Oregon is up 34-27. The Sun Devils have already turned the ball over 10 times. These final three minutes will be big for ASU.
0:17- Oregon calls timeout and will have final play before halftime. Ducks lead 38-29.
0:00- Oregon leads 38-29 at halftime.
Second Half
16:52- Things slipping away from ASU, as Herb Sendek calls a timeout after a Singler three gives Oregon its biggest lead of the game, 48-34. The Ducks are simply outworking the Sun Devils, beating them to every loose ball and converting on second chance opportunities.
15:24- Oregon now up 51-34 at the first media timeout of the half. Looks like ASU has given up.
11:59- There’s still a lot of time left, but this game is all but over. Oregon leads 55-36 and shows no signs of letting up. This is a rather embarrassing performance by ASU.
10:21- Maybe I spoke too soon. ASU is on a 6-0 run and has cut the lead to 55-42. Dana Altman calls timeout.
7:38- Maybe I spoke too soon again, as the Ducks go on a mini 6-2 run to push the lead back up to 17, 61-44. Oregon is shooting 11-of-18 from three, 23-of-46 overall.
4:39- Things getting very interesting here. ASU implemented a full court press and got a couple baskets off of turnovers and are right back in this, trailing 63-53. It will be Sun Devils ball coming out of the timeout.
2:11- ASU made things interesting, cutting the lead to 8, but it simply hasn’t been able to get any stops on defense. Ducks lead 67-59.
1:13- ASU was down 8 and had a chance to be down 6 or 5, but a turnover leads to two Oregon FT’s. Ducks now up 71-61.
0:52- ASU still fighting, as Kuksiks drills a three to make it 71-64. Oregon ball out of the timeout.
0:00- Oregon holds on to beat ASU 76-69. The Ducks will play UCLA tomorrow in the quarterfinals. The Sun Devils finish the season with a record of 12-19.
