The Arizona State Sun Devils open up their 2010-2011 basketball season tonight against the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque. This is the first time in 18 years that ASU is opening up its season on the road.

The Lobos are the two-time defending Mountain West Champions and boast one of the best home-court advantages in college basketball in The Pit. Last year, New Mexico was 17-1 in The Pit.

The Sun Devils are coming of a 22-11 season that ended in disappointment with losses in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament and National Invitational Tournament. They return three senior starters in Ty Abbott, Jamelle McMillan and Rihards Kuksiks, but they also bring in five freshman and two junior college transfers.

New Mexico, who won its season opener against Detroit, lost Darington Hobson to the NBA but returns three starters from last year’s team that went 30-5 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tonight, however, the Lobos are expected to be without their best shooter, Phillip McDonald, who has an elbow injury.

The Blaze 1330 AM will have full coverage of the ASU-New Mexico game tonight, as Mike Sackley and Josh Green will be sitting courtside live at The Pit.
