The Arizona State Sun Devils will face their second FCS opponent of the season as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks of the Big Sky come to Tempe tonight for a 7pm showdown.

The Sun Devils are coming off a 54-9 win over Portland State last week. Quarterback Steven Threet looks to build off his strong debut last week, where he threw for 239 yards and 2 TDs. Running back Cameron Marshall is coming off 104 yards rushing and 2 TDs.

The ASU defense was very strong last week, holding the Portland State Vikings to three field goals.

Northern Arizona comes into tonight’s game (1-0) after a 48-0 season opening win against Western New Mexico. Mississippi transfer Michael Herrick went 15/25 for 178 yards and 2 TDs. Chandler Hamilton graduate Zach Bauman led the way on the ground for the Lumberjacks. The freshman had 22 carries for 167 yards and 4 TDs.

This Northern Arizona team is much better than the Portland State team that ASU saw last week. The Lumberjacks are very capable of winning the Big Sky Conference. It should be interesting to see how ASU’s defesne contains an NAU offense that put up 496 yards of offense last week. But that was Western New Mexico, this is Arizona State, which features one of the best defenses in the Pac-10.

If the ASU offense can continue the balance of running and passing that we saw last week, the Sun Devils should win. But if the Devils are caught looking ahead to Wisconsin, NAU could surprise the Sun Devils. I do not think that will be the case. ASU will be focused and come out on top.

Predicition: ASU 38 – NAU 24
