The Arizona State Sun Devils hope to sustain momentum from their win in Washington, as they take on the California Golden Bears in a crucial Pac-10 clash tomorrow in Berkeley.
Both teams come into the game with identical records of 3-3 overall, and 1-2 in the Pac-10.
ASU is coming off a bye week, while Cal is coming off an embarrassing 48-14 loss to USC.
With the midway point of the season upon us, every game becomes all the more critical for teams’ bowl eligibility hopes. ASU must win four of its remaining six games to reach the seven-win mark necessary to be eligible.
The Sun Devil run defense will have its hands full, as Cal is led by junior running back Shane Vereen, who is considered one of the best backs in the Pac-10.
“When you talk about LaMichael James and Jaquizz Rodgers, you’ve got to talk about Vereen in the same breath,” ASU head coach Dennis Erickson said.
The Bears are also led by senior quarterback Kevin Riley. Although he’s been inconsistent this season, he led Cal on a 74-yard game-winning drive against the Sun Devils last year in Tempe.
ASU has not won in Berkeley since 1997.
You can listen to the ASU-Cal game live on the Blaze 1330 AM, as Mike Sackley and Josh Green will have the call from Memorial Stadium. Coverage starts at 12:15 p.m. with the countdown to kickoff pregame show, followed by kickoff at 12:30 p.m.
