The Arizona State hockey team lost the first of a two game weekend series with Oklahoma.

ASU started off the scoring, as Chris Vassos scored a shorthanded goal to make it 1-0 in the first period. Ten seconds into the second period, Colin Hekle recorded his first goal as a Sun Devil, going top shelf on Oklahoma goaltender Matt Pombo.

The Sooners would strike back as Justin King scored on a breakaway goal fresh out of the penalty box. He beat ASU goaltender Mark Schacker to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the third period, the Sun Devils would strike to make it 3-1. Joe Schweiger scored on a wrap around for his 100th goal in the ACHA.

The Sooners would score two unanswered goals. Justin King would get both of them to complete the hat trick. His second goal of the game was a beautiful shot from the right point. His 3rd goal was accidentally kicked in by the Sun Devils’ Dan Styrna.

Neither team would score in overtime. In the shootout, Oklahoma’s Chad Hudson and King would both record goals against Schacker to seal the deal for the Sooners.

The two teams play again tonight at 6:15pm. Make sure to tune in right here at www.blazeradioonline.com as Andrew Gruman and Mike Sackley bring you all the action from Oceanside Ice Arena.
