Rhode Island defeats ASU hockey 3-2 in shootout

The 3rd ranked Sun Devil hockey team dropped a tough one to the 13th ranked Rhode Island Rams 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night at Oceanside Arena.

Patrick Rogan opened the scoring for the Sun Devils, scoring on the power play. Marc Wilhite and Pat Lind picked up the assists.

The next goal wouldn’t come until the 3rd period, when Rhode Island tied the game at 1.

With 10:43 left in the game, Rhode Island would take a 2-1 lead.

Marc Wilhite tied the game for the Sun Devils, picking up a goal with 1:43 left in the game. Dan Styrna picked up the only assist.

The teams remained deadlocked through the overtime period. Rhode Island’s Jay Dupras was able to beat Mark Schacker in the shootout. This gave the Rams the 3-2 victory over the Sun Devils.

ASU will be back in action this Friday night against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. The game will start at 7:3opm at Oceanside Arena. You can hear the game right here on The Blaze.
