ASU falls to Michigan 1-3!

The ASU volleyball team opens the ASU Sheraton Tournament tonight against No. 21 Michigan. The Sun Devils (4-5) will certainly have their hands full against the Wolverines (8-1).

ASU Starting Lineup:

1st set: The Sun Devils got off to a hot start thanks to senior outside Sarah Reaves who started things off with a kill to put ASU up 1-0.

ASU continues to put points on the board against the Wolverines, it’s 8-3 ASU early on in the first set.  The Sun Devils pushed Michigan to call a timeout when ASU extended its lead to 9-3. Wolverines not looking like the Top 25 team they are early on in first set.

Wells Fargo Arena is full of energy, ASU leads 15-6 here in the first set. Reaves slams a kill to the ground against Michigan as ASU now leads 17-7.  Michigan coach Mark Rosen takes another timeout!

The Sun Devils WIN set one against No. 21 Michigan to take a 1-0 lead. ASU must continue its energetic play heading into set two.

2nd set: Michigan jumped out to a 4-0 lead to kick off the second set.  ASU cuts the deficit to 5-9, Jenny Teslevich into the game for ASU.

It’s a one point game, ASU marching right back into the game.  ASU’s Erica Wilson then ties it at 14-14.

The Sun Devils and Wolverines are knotted in a close contest. After a 15-15 tie and a 16-16 tie, the score now sits at 18-16 Michigan.

ASU calls a timeout as they are now down 19-22.

The 2nd set is in the books as ASU falls to Michigan 21-25 to even the match at 1-1.

3rd set: After Michigan jumped out to a small 2-0 lead, Sarah Reaves’s kill got ASU on the board.

Junior outside Malia Marquardt gives ASU the 5-4 lead.  That slim lead has not lasted for ASU as Michigan has overcome the one point deficit and now leads 10-6 over the Sun Devils.

ASU showed Michigan they too could come from behind, ASU knots the score at 13-13. However that would not last. Michigan takes another lead 16-14.

The Sun Devils play comeback again, we are tied at 19-19. Michigan calls the timeout. Sun Devils showing plenty of energy as ASU ASU ASU cheer breaks out in Wells Fargo Arena.

Sun Devils take a 21-20 late  in the 3rd set, but the Wolverines knot us back up at 21-21. Sarah Reaves and Malia Marquardt make it 24-22 ASU.

Two consecutive points from Michigan tie it at 24-24, ASU takes a 25-24 lead until Michigan slams a kill to tie it at 25-25.

In an extremely intense finish, the Wolverines claim the 3rd set 27-25 to jump ahead 2-1.

4th set: ASU finds itself in a narrow hole early in the fourth set, 6-8 Michigan.

Malia Marquardt and Sonja Markanovich are a force at the net.  ASU trails 12-14

Watson calls an ASU timeout at 14-17, two quick points for ASU after the timeout it’s 16-17.  Erica Wilson with the kill for the POINT SUN DEVILS.

Michigan stole the momentum back in this match, they hold a 24-18 lead over ASU.

ASU loses the match 1-3 against No. 21 Michigan.
