Breaking: Police responding to shooting near ASU's downtown campus; one person reportedly seriously injured

A man is seriously injured and the Phoenix Police Department is looking for a suspect who is presumed to be armed after police responded to a shooting near Arizona State University’s downtown campus early Friday afternoon.

The University shared a message through its LiveSafe app shortly around 1:30 p.m., reporting that the subject was “armed and dangerous,” and had driven away from the scene in a white Chevrolet Suburban.

Phoenix Police Department PIO Sgt. Rob Scherer said in a statement: “Just before 1 p.m., officers responded to the area of 3rd Avenue and Fillmore Street regarding a shooting. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The scene has been locked down for further investigation. Detectives are responding to assume the investigation. This incident did not take place on any downtown college campus. What led up to the shooting remains part of the ongoing investigation.”

As of 2 p.m. the suspect is still not in custody.

Those with any information are asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151.
