How Scottsdale Arts CEO hopes to create a Dreamy Draw to the Valley of the Sun

Phoenix — Scottsdale Arts and Oh Wow Company have partnered to create one of the Valley’s newest music events: Dreamy Draw Music Festival. The festival hopes to bring local, regional and national music acts to Scottsdale and create entertainment and tourism to the city.

Gerd Wuestemann, CEO and president of Scottsdale Arts, said that this year’s festival is larger than it has been, and that larger acts such as the Lumineers have created a need for a larger venue and overall weekend-long presence.

“This year we're taking a huge step,” Wuestemann said.

The lineup for the fun-filled Nov. 7-8 weekend includes The Lumineers, Vampire Weekend, Thee Sacred Souls and Father John Misty. Local acts such as Mellow Toad and Sidney Bird will support these larger talents, as Wuestemann said that local acts deserve the chance to perform on a bigger stage to a larger audience than the typical local club or bar scene.

Scottsdale is also a prime location for a winter music festival, he said. The festival’s occurrence in November provides a unique position. In many parts of the country, festival fans will be stuck in cooler temperatures. However, in Scottsdale, November is still a relatively sunny month. Wuestemann said that the sunny temperature of Phoenix in a winter month will create a draw for Dreamy Draw attendees.

“This is a great destination if you live… in the Pacific Northwest in November when you haven't seen the sun for two months,” he said. “To go [to] a sunny weekend in Scottsdale with mild temperatures, sounds like a pretty good idea, right? So all of a sudden, we realized we should lean into that and really build out this concept of getting festival travelers here.”

Sunny skies aren’t the only draw to this unique festival, according to Wuestemann. The partnership between Oh Wow Company and Scottsdale Arts has allowed for the festival to be accessible in price, which Wuestemann said provides a more diverse crowd of attendees.

“[The price is] something we did by design. We really wanted to make sure that…we make this accessible for everybody. We know there's tons of music fans, and they don't make a huge amount of money yet,” he said.

2 day GA tickets are $155.84 as of Sept. 15, with 2 day VIP tickets at $306.55. Buy tickets here
