Lucy Dacus turns Phoenix concert into a night of music and matrimony

The indie-rock singer Lucy Dacus put on quite the show Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Arizona Financial Theatre, marking the second date of her "Forever is a Feeling North America" tour.

Dacus played songs from her newest album, “Forever Is A Feeling," along with older favorites from past albums, peppered in some jokes and even officiated a wedding.

She opened the show with “Hot & Heavy,” a song from her “Home Video” album, released in 2021. A few songs later, she played “VBS,” another song off the “Home Video” album. During the second verse of the song, Dacus forgot the lyrics. She turned to her band to help her remember, then an audience member in the pit called out the next few lyrics. She picked up right where she had left off, with the crowd singing along with her.

Lucy Dacus invited five couples on stage to tie the knot and have their first dance amid her song “Best Guess.” She first announced the idea in a July 23 Instagram post, noting she is ordained to officiate weddings in the United States and would host ceremonies at select tour stops.

There was not a dry eye in the room during this unconventional but extremely charming ceremony. The crowd cheered for the newlyweds, and Dacus handed out roses to the five new happy couples.

Dacus also shared with the crowd that Phoenix was a very meaningful place to her, as she had toured there previously. She even mentioned her hit song “Night Shift” was actually written in the green room of Valley Bar, a local basement venue located in downtown Phoenix.

She finished off the concert with two fan-favorites as the encores, “True Blue” and “Night Shift.” The crowd’s energy was palpable during the guitar solo of “Night Shift.” From the musicians on stage, to the concert goers, everyone was shouting the lyrics and feeling the music.

If you are looking for a night of live music where you can sing your heart out, laugh and be a witness to multiple weddings, the Lucy Dacus “Forever Is A Feeling ” tour is definitely for you.
