On Thursday, Oct. 30, electronic music sensations Kaytranada and Justice delivered a remarkable performance at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix. The Phoenix audience was gifted with a stop of a co-headlining tour where all acts demanded the audience’s attention, and no act overtook the other.
Promptly at 7 p.m., Scottish producer Sam Gellaitry set the mood with his opening set, playing experimental beats. Gellaitry is known as a contemporary artist influenced by disco and house music. Not only is he a producer, but Gellalitry tends to incorporate his own vocals into his music, making him a multifaceted artist.
Once the middle stage started descending from the ceiling, the audience knew it was time for Kaytranada to take the stage. Whilst drinking a glass of what seemed to be wine or champagne, Kaytranada delivered soulful house and R&B music. Following his performance, French duo Justice brought festival-scale electro theatrics that got the whole venue pumped.

From the moment Kaytranada took the stage, the energy in the venue changed. People who were sitting down waiting solely for Justice’s performance found themselves up on their feet dancing, even if they weren’t familiar with the music beforehand. \
Kaytranada performed some of his hit songs like “Lover/Friend,” “10%” and “Sossaup.” He leaned into the kind of DJing that made fans want to keep dancing.
Justice followed Kaytranada, and the contrast could not have been clearer. While Kaytranada delivered grooves and head-bopping beats, Justice brought synth stabs and distorted basslines that took up all the room in the stadium.

The energy was still high when Justice came out, performing “One Night/All Night” and most famously their song “D.A.N.C.E.,” that was featured in the hit game Just Dance 2 in 2010.
Justice’s light visuals matched the scale of their sound. Their set design included a towering wall of LED lights framing the duo as they mixed their songs live, creating their signature cross imagery. With every kick drum or high-hat, a flashing light would synchronize perfectly with the sound.
The production value of the night kept me in awe. With a floating stage, excellent light shows, and a harmonious production of what electronic can be, Kaytranada and Justice proved that their performances would last in people’s minds beyond their final beat.
