Arizona State reaches double digits, takes down Park University in finale

TEMPE, Ariz – Typically, in a professional hockey game, a team dresses 18 skaters and two goalies. If you’ve been watching the Olympics, the national teams have dressed 20 skaters with two goalies.

Park University dressed six skaters and had just one goalie on Saturday night. A lack of depth and speed all contributed to a dominant effort by Arizona State’s Division III club hockey (18-7-1-1), who defeated Park University (2-13-0-1) 10-2 on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026.

In their home finale, the Sun Devils sustained offensive pressure all night long, including a four-goal performance in the first period. It was evident who would control the pace of play early as well, as ASU outshot the Buccaneers 34-4 in the first period.

With a large lead already in tow, head coach Vincent Holt gave as many opportunities to the bottom of the bench as possible. Sun Devils defenseman Mason Williams and forward William Plewa both recorded their first points in the game.

In its only penalty kill of the game, ASU notched two shorthanded goals from Williams and forward Kade Gramlich. After the power play concluded, both coaches agreed to a running clock for the remainder of the game.

Despite a rough 60 minutes, Park University did find some positives from its captain, Matthew Gagliano. He scored both of the Buccaneers' goals in the game and got his total up to 20 on the season.

Even though he let up 10 goals, Park University goaltender Aaron Mittendorf made 64 saves to limit the damage as much as possible.

The Buccaneers will conclude their inaugural season at home against Western Colorado next weekend, while Arizona State's season has concluded.
