“A Soulful Night” with Charlie Puth

PHOENIX – On April 24, Charlie Puth took the stage at the Arizona Financial Theatre. His return to Phoenix was long-awaited by fans since his last 2018 performance in Arizona.

The night began at 7:30 p.m. with Ally Salort, who wowed the crowd as she sang. She started her set by singing her most popular song, “Pretty Face”. Before singing her newly released song “Finish Line,” she spoke to the audience about how the song is about outgrowing the old version of yourself.

Daniel Seavey took the stage shortly thereafter and captured the audience right away with his use of the looper pedal, where he played a variety of instruments. He held the audience's attention throughout his performance, even taking suggestions from the crowd on which random song he should perform while using the looper pedal. Seavey even sang an unreleased song to end his set.

Charlie Puth walked onto the stage at 9 p.m. as “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire played through the speakers. He opened up his set on a high note by singing “How Long,” a fan favorite of his.

Puth had three backup vocalists: Livv, Lorea Turner and Jaden Blakey Gray. These singers harmonized beautifully with Puth and each other. Puth sang a variety of songs from his catalog, many of which were from his “Whatever’s Clever!” album and his most popular hits.

During several songs, Puth had his audience members join in with him, creating a choir-like atmosphere. He commented many times during the night on how much he enjoyed being inside a theatre rather than a stadium because he felt he could talk to the audience one-on-one.

The visuals on the stage screens were so fun and visually appealing. During “Boy,” many audience members were up on their feet, loudly singing along.

Throughout the set, Puth was very open and talkative to the audience and at one point called the night soulful. He also shared that his latest album was about his life, and he felt it was what was missing most from his discography, explaining that this album shared the new parts of his life now that he is a husband and father.

To wrap up an amazing night, Puth performed an encore where he sang some of his most cherished songs, “One Call Away” and “See You Again”. A wave of calm and serenity fell over the theatre as Puth sat at his piano with the audience quietly singing along with their phone lights out.

The final song, “Changes,” Puth’s latest single, made it so the night did not end on a sad note. Fans left the theatre feeling energized and overall, in high spirits.

Puth will continue his tour throughout the year, visiting many cities around the world. To purchase tickets, go to Live Music | Charlie Puth.
