October Baseball is here. The postseason field is set, and the Wild Card Series kicks off on Tuesday, October 3rd. With the expanded field of 12 coming into play for the second year, there are more teams that have a chance to win it all. Four teams have received first round byes (The Braves, Dodgers, Astros, and Orioles), with the remaining 8 teams playing in the best-of-three WC Series. Following the conclusion of the WC Series, the American League Division Series (ALDS) and the National League Division Series (NLDS) begin on Saturday October 7th. The American League Championship Series (ALCS) begins on Sunday October 15, and the National League Championship Series (NLCS) starts on Monday October 16, with the World Series rolling out on Friday October 27. For these postseason predictions, we will be predicting which teams will win the American League and National League pennants, and which team will take it all home in 2023.

From 2017 to 2021, the Baltimore Orioles were by far baseball’s worst team, posting a record of 253-455 and finishing last in the American League East in four of those five seasons. While 2022 gave Orioles fans a glimmer of hope into what their future would hold, 2023 has been a glistening display of what this team will be for years to come. Made up of a roster littered with young talent, along with a few team mainstays, this Orioles team has shown why they are a side that no team wants to face in the playoffs. If 2023 is any indication for the future, the American League will run through Baltimore, and the fans at Camden Yards will be sure to bring the electric atmosphere into the stadium after having little to cheer for since the mid-2010s.

Heading into Wednesday night’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, all the headlines were around the health of Inter Miami’s blockbuster summer signing, Lionel Messi. The Argentine attacker had missed a string of games recently, and just hours before kickoff, Miami’s lineup was released with no sign of him on the team sheet. This was a huge sigh of relief for the Houston Dynamo, and paired with the absence of key defender Jordi Alba, gave the visiting side the final jolt in its 2-1 victory.

Every September, the MLB postseason races start to heat up, and fans get treated to a month’s worth of meaningful baseball. The first teams begin clinching spots early in September, with the final teams often clinching on the last days of the season. This season is no different. With just over two weeks left in the season, four teams have clinched their spots. The Braves clinched the NL East first, and the Dodgers followed a few days later, clinching the NL West. Sunday, the Orioles and Rays both secured at least a Wild Card berth. Meanwhile, the other races are still up in the air, and could potentially come down to the wire with major shake ups until then. Taking a look specifically at the Wild Card, and which teams will have a chance in the postseason, the NL Wild Card is a bit more clean cut, while the AL Wild Card will likely come down to the AL West division.
