PHOENIX – Alex Anthony Madrid has been officially charged with murder, sexual conduct with a minor and kidnapping. He is now fighting the death penalty.
Alex Anthony Madrid faces the death penalty after being convicted of the 2013 rape and murder of Claudia Ann Lucero, a 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered wrapped in a carpet near a Phoenix dumpster. Madrid was found guilty earlier this month, with DNA evidence linking him to the crime. In a bid to spare his life, his family members have testified in Maricopa Superior Court, describing a turbulent family history, his efforts to connect with his son and difficult childhood experiences. The penalty phase of his trial will continue into early 2025.
Alex Anthony Madrid, 42, was arrested in 2013 for the rape and murder of Lucero ,14. Upon being broken up with by Lucero’s mother, Madrid kidnaped Lucero, raped her by a dumpster and then strangled her to death. He then wrapped her body in an old carpet where it was discovered by two women looking for aluminum cans.

As we continue to pick up the pieces for many different industries in a post-COVID-19 world, it is clear that many things will never be the same. One of the most heavily changed industries is film, with common pre-COVID money makers like superhero movies becoming more hit and miss, and theaters seeing more losses than wins over the last four years. There have of course been some wins and surprises, such as Top Gun: Maverick or the phenomenon that was Barbenheimer. However, as mono-culture becomes less and less of a thing in a more segmented media landscape, and movies go to streaming sooner after their theatrical releases, we simply do not see the excitement for the theatrical movie-going experience that we used to.

On Nov. 8, 2014, No. 9 Arizona State football defeated No. 10 Notre Dame 55-31 at Mountain America Stadium. It was a game that head coach Kenny Dillingham, who was an offensive assistant for the Sun Devils at the time, remembered fondly. He had wished for stakes and an atmosphere like that game.
