TEMPE, Ariz. - In the final matchup of the Snyder-Park Classic, the Oregon Ducks’ (7-1) balanced offense paved the way for a 3-1 win over the San Diego Toreros (3-5) on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Desert Financial Arena. 

Outside of a rough first set that ended 25-16 in favor of San Diego, Oregon dominated, winning the third and fourth set by at least six points. 

The second set proved to be the turning point on Sunday, as the Toreros fought back from down 20-16 with four unanswered points, but ultimately dropped the set 27-25.   

Dutch junior outside hitter Sjakkie Donkers led Oregon's offense, tallying a season-high 17 kills and a 44% hit percentage on the day. 

Along with Donkers, senior outside hitter Valentina Vaulet, one of the veteran leaders on the team, accumulated double-digit kills on the day, racking up another 12 kills. 

Vaulet leads the Ducks this season by a wide margin with 107 kills, with no other Oregon player reaching 75 kills on the campaign to this point.

Despite the persistent attack, San Diego made Oregon earn the win after surprising the Ducks in the first set. 

The Toreros’ stout defense didn't go away after the first set, either, with the team collecting 18 blocks on Sunday. 

Senior outside hitter Kierstyn Barton and senior middle blocker Megan Scholz spearheaded San Diego’s defensive efforts, but Barton was a weapon on both sides of the ball, crushing 15 kills along with 10 digs.

Sholtz had a big day on the front line for the Toreros with seven blocks, many of which were in the hard-fought second set.   

As the Snyder-Park Classic comes to a close, Oregon travels back home to take on Portland State on Thursday, Sept. 17.

San Diego heads home as well for a lengthy homestand, beginning with a matchup against Arizona on Sept. 17.
