From artists like Paramore’s Hayley Williams releasing an indie rock album to 5 Seconds of Summer and Demi Lovato with their comeback albums, there was something for everyone this year. Scottsdale, Ariz. — Scottsdale Arts and OhWow Company partnered on Nov. 7-8 to host the two-day folk and rock festival, Dreamy Draw, for the third year in a row. This time, with a bigger sprawl of stages and more attendees. Headliners included The Lumineers, who previously headlined Extra Innings Festival earlier this year, and Vampire Weekend. Supporting acts included Father John Misty, Thee Sacred Souls and Marcus King Band.

Phoenix — Scottsdale Arts and Oh Wow Company have partnered to create one of the Valley’s newest music events: Dreamy Draw Music Festival. The festival hopes to bring local, regional and national music acts to Scottsdale and create entertainment and tourism to the city.

Jordana, known for her collaboration with lo-fi band TV Girl, stunned audiences with an incredible vocal performance on Feb. 5 at Valley Bar in downtown Phoenix. She played the entirety of her most recent release, “Lively Premonition” in order, as well as a rousing cover of a Steely Dan classic. She ended with three of her songs from her collaboration with TV Girl.

Odie Leigh brought her sensitive romance to the Valley Bar on Tuesday, enchanting her audience with her dreamy folk music. Supported by Izzy Mahoubi and Clover County, the trio brought an incredible show to what Leigh repeatedly called “The Grand Canyon State.”

PHOENIX-- Scott Mills, co-owner of The Yard Milkshake Bar in Downtown Phoenix loves ice cream. His favorite flavor in the local dessert shop is their Peanut Butter Overload. Mills described the flavor as a melding of chocolate and peanut butter but acknowledged that it is on the sweeter side of the flavor scale.

The Saviors Tour brought The Linda Lindas, Rancid, The Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day to Chase Field in Phoenix on Sept. 18, and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sept. 14. The tour, meant to highlight the 30th anniversary of Green Day’s album “Dookie” and the 20th anniversary of its album “American Idiot” also provided the four bands with an opportunity to encourage attendees to vote, as well as share their music with the arenas. The enormous stage provided a just backdrop for the bands to explode. Blaze Radio’s Bella Mazzilli was at the Phoenix show, with Brooklyn Cohen attending the night in Los Angeles.

One might expect “We Ain’t Ever Gonna Break Up: The Hymon & Parfunkel Musical” to be a direct parody or retelling of the famed duo Simon and Garfunkel’s story. But, the audience member in question would be incorrect to assume such a thing. The show consisted of two actors playing a variety of roles, from policeman to hand puppet wife, making it confusing to keep track of who is speaking in which context, and making the show quite confusing altogether. Its one-hour and 45-minute runtime felt lengthy.

PHOENIX- Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota arrived at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport around 12:30 p.m. on September 10. The Harris-Walz campaign held a rally at the Centennial Hall in Mesa, Arizona. Walz spoke on healthcare, opportunity and the Democratic party’s underdog status. As the Democratic vice presidential nominee, Walz’s stop in Phoenix is just part of a series of speaking events in what the party calls a “tour of the Sun Belt states”.

Flashing lights, dazzling sparkly dresses and jaw-dropping performances were just a touch of the magic that the Drag U Downtown event on April 9 brought to Arizona State University. With performances by locally-renowned drag queens and kings Kim Etiquette, Espressa Grande, Benaddiction, Kristofer Inez Onyx, Eddie Broadway and Mynx Demilo, the event was a celebration of queer identity.

Laura Linney has won nine Emmys, two Golden Globes, and one Screen Actors Guild Award. More recently, she gave the 2023 Flinn Foundation Centennial Lecture. The Flinn Foundation established an endowment in 1985 to celebrate the university’s 100th year.
