Arizona State Volleyball sweeps Kansas State to End Road Trip

In a sold-out crowd at Morgan Family Arena, No. 8 Arizona State Volleyball swept Kansas State 3-0. This win concluded their two-game road trip in Kansas.

On Friday, the Sun Devils defeated No. 18 Kansas in a five-set thriller. They won 3-2 and outscored the Jayhawks in the tiebreaking set 15-11.

After a day off, ASU drove west to face off against the Wildcats. The win was a more comfortable win for Coach JJ Van Neil’s squad. The Sun Devils took the first three sets to seal it.

Junior opposite hitter Noemie Glover led ASU in kills with 13. She also led the team in total attacks, finishing with 24.

Redshirt sophomore setter Brynn Covell led the Sun Devils with 22 assists in the game. Senior setter Sydney Henry tallied 13 assists, which was second on the team in that category.

The Sun Devils began the first set of the game with multiple scoring runs, giving them the advantage. This included a 4-0 run to turn an 8-7 lead to a 12-7 lead, and a 5-0 run to give ASU an 18-11 lead.

Despite a rally by Kansas State, the set would end with a block assist by junior middle blocker Ella Lomigora.

The second set would be tighter, as the Wildcats would erase multiple four-point deficits to tie the game. The set was tied at 19 following an attack error by Lomigora.

But ASU would go on a 6-1 run to take the second set of the game. Glover notched the final two kills of the set to give the Sun Devils a 2-0 lead in the game.

The third set would be the toughest set of the game for ASU, as Kansas State took an early lead. The Wildcats led 10-4 after two consecutive service errors by the Sun Devils.

However, Coach Van Neil’s team would show its resilience, erasing the deficit it had built to finish on a 21-9 run and conclude the match. ASU had two 3-0 runs and a 5-0 run to help regain the momentum they had lost.

To conclude the game, it was Glover who notched the final kill of the game from the right side, to finish a come-from-behind set victory. More importantly, it sealed the 3-0 victory for ASU.

ASU has now won its last 18 conference games within the Big 12. Their only conference loss since joining the Big 12 was against Baylor last season.

Now the Sun Devils wait to see where they end up in the AVCA Rankings tomorrow, hoping that they went up following their win over No. 18 Kansas.
