No. 9 Arizona State Defeats UIW in Three Sets

PHOENIX — Coming off a victory over Texas State, Arizona State volleyball continued its momentum, defeating Incarnate Word in three sets.

Friday’s win marked the Sun Devils' 10th consecutive road victory dating back to last season.

ASU had everything go its way in this matchup, as it dominated on both the offensive and defensive fronts. The Sun Devils had two players with double-doubles, compared to the Cardinals, who did not have a player with over eight kills.

Senior outside hitter Bailey Miller and senior outside hitter Tatum Parrott recorded those double-doubles, as the duo led the Sun Devils to victory on Friday. Miller added another 15 kills to her season stat line as well as 13 digs.

This marks Miller’s second double-double of the season, as she continues to shine bright on the road trip.

For Parrott, she also tallied 15 kills and 12 digs.

On the defensive side, ASU totaled nine blocks, with junior middle blocker Ella Lomigora collecting five.

Overall, the Sun Devils played a cleaner game, committing just 11 errors compared to UIW’s 18.

ASU dominated the match’s first set, winning 25-11, as redshirt freshman outside hitter Kiylah Presley led the way.

However, set two proved challenging for the Sun Devils, as they pulled out a close 25-21 victory. ASU committed self-inflicting mistakes, including multiple serving and attacking errors that kept the Cardinals in the set.

Tied at 20 late into the set, the Sun Devils overcame their sloppy play to take a 2-0 set lead.

The third and final set unfolded similarly to the initial set, as ASU returned to its dominant form to win 25-14 and clinch the match.

Both Miller and Presley had a kill, as the Sun Devils did not look back. ASU rallied off multiple scoring runs, including a 5-0 run that put the set out of reach at 24-13.

Parrot recorded the game-winning score, her 15th of the game, as the Sun Devils improved to 6-1 on the season.

No. 9 ASU rides a four-game win streak into Austin, Texas, to take on No. 2 Texas on Sept. 14.
