Arizona State Softball Dismantles Embry-Riddle at Home

TEMPE, ARIZ.— Arizona State takes the win against Embry-Riddle in a home fall softball game.

The entire ASU team showed up against the Eagles, but certain players were phenomenal on the field.

Freshman pitcher Mary Peyton Hodge showed out, striking Embry-Riddle out multiple times throughout the night.

“She’s going to have a really nice career. She’s tall, long, left-handed, and has a plus spin rate,” head coach Megan Bartlett said.

The Sun Devils were able to put up 13 runs against the Eagles, with multiple coming from home runs.

In the bottom of the first, junior catcher Emily Schepp hit a home run to kickstart ASU.

Just moments later, senior outfielder Tanya Windle hit an in-the-park home run.

In the bottom of the second, Junior catcher Samantha Swan hit a ball straight to the scoreboard to rack up another home run for the team.

The Sun Devils showed no mercy as they continued to add runs to the scoreboard.

By the time the bottom of the third was over, ASU led 10-0.

“I definitely liked what I saw tonight. We got some good hits,” Bartlett said.

Junior infielder Nehanda Lewis wasn’t at the plate for long in the bottom of the fourth, hitting a towering home run to put the Sun Devils up 13-0.

In the top of the fifth, Embry-Riddle began making huge plays that led it to score two runs against ASU.

The Eagles began to build momentum as the game continued, adding two more runs at the top of the sixth.

Going into the seventh inning, the Sun Devils still led, but Embry-Riddle wasn’t out of the game after scoring four runs.

ASU finished the game strong, striking the Eagles out, winning with a final score of 13-4.

“It’s a long time till February, but I am definitely proud of our girls tonight; they played well,” Bartlett said.
