Mya Glaister gets her first shutout of season, propels ASU to win

TEMPE, Ariz. — Freshman goalie Mya Glaister recorded her first collegiate win and shutout for ASU Women’s Hockey on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.

The Sun Devils' goalie was a brick wall against the Arizona Wildcats this afternoon handing ASU a 3-0 win.

This afternoon, Glaister was a different player, saving 40 shots on goals from the Wildcats, helping to improve ASU’s record to 5-1-1-1, while the Wildcats fell to 5-3.

Though for the Sun Devils, Glaister’s second start was a big turnaround from her first start against Jamestown. Against Jamestown, she gave up four goals on 46 shots.

After the Sun Devils struggled in North Dakota last week, with a split series with Minot State and dropping a one game series with the Jimmies this win could turn their lows into highs, with this afternoon's shutout.

The offense was just as potent as the defense today for ASU. They scored their first goal right off the bat, only 2 minutes into the first period.

Junior forward Breanne Powell got her third goal of the year, off a pass from sophomore forward Kyly Laybolt, her fourth assist this season.

However, the offense continued its reign for ASU with two more goals in the second period. The first came on a power play in the first period, with sophomore forward Kylie Brown scoring her fourth goal of the year.

The Sun Devils held the upper hand offensively, scoring two goals on two of their seven power play attempts to give them a 2-0 advantage early in the second period.

Both teams committed a total of 12 penalties. The biggest penalty was a four-minute minor for Brown.

Brown was knocked over, then she punched Wildcats freshman forward Leila Schultz in the chin.

The punch sent Brown and Schultz to the penalty box for a four-on-four power play that ended in both teams scoring.

However, ASU scored its third goal of the game on a five-on-four power play from junior forward Paige Ring for her first goal of the season.

Although the Wildcats fell this afternoon, freshman goalie Olivia Sorlie had a solid outing, as she saved 21 of the 24 shots on goal.

However, Sorlie had way more on her plate this afternoon. She gave up three goals while being on the penalty kill seven times tonight, as she tried to keep the Wildcats afloat.

This was Sorlie’s third loss of the season, just six days after a great outing against Grand Canyon, where she went 35 for 36 on saves.

After the Sun Devils struggled in North Dakota last week, this win could turn their lows into highs.

Both teams will face off again Saturday afternoon, where the Wildcats look to avoid being swept for the second time by the Sun Devils this season. The first came at the beginning of the year, when ASU won 2-0, off of Brown and freshman forward Sophie Sears goals.

However, the Sun Devils look to win their seventh straight against Arizona and add to their resume as the seventh-ranked team in the nation.
