MMA Lab and Red Hawk Academy nearly clear out competition At RUF 66

PHOENIX- With fighters like Alex Preissing, Zane Darlington, Oscar Garica and Marcus Nash all providing highlight reel finishes, Arizona fight fans received a great card to start the year from RUF MMA.

RUF's first show of the year saw many amateur and professional fights go down at Celebrity Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 7. The fighters provided technical standup, smothering wrestling, tightening submission attempts and all-out wars throughout the course of 12 fights.

Preissing, who trains out of Red Hawk Academy, brought fans to their feet the moment he opened up the main card. Many fans see Preissing as the hometown hero and the most exciting fighter on the card.

Throughout Preissing’s two professional fights, neither of them has gone the distance, as tonight the part-time lawyer finished his opponent by submission.

“I mean, I just got so many hours on the mats, grappling and wrestling since I was a kid,” Preissing said. “You can put me in a dark room blindfolded, and I’ll be able to feel those chokes still.”

Marucs Nash, who trains out of the MMA Lab, equally stole the fans over after his first-round knockout of Duane Johnson. After getting hit illegally below the waist, Nash wasted no time swinging for the fences, looking to exact his revenge.

“I have that touch you and you’ll die power,” Nash said. “I lost in September and my coach told me that I needed to change my footwork and that’s something that I really improved on.”

Zane Darlington and Oscar Garica, also fighting out of the MMA Lab, provided equally dominant performances, repping their game to its fullest extent.

Darlington controlled the entire fight for as long as it lasted, submitting his opponent in the first round via arm triangle. Garica followed up his teammate's performance with a stunning slam knockout in under a minute.

Garica, in his post-fight interview, shouted out his teammate Mario Bautista, who secured a second-round submission in Las Vegas, being the headliner of an apex card.

The main and co-main events featured two women's fights for the first time in RUF history. Ashley Deen vs. Jenna Williams and Nadia Chmil vs. Juila Frankman blew the roof off with two barn-burner fights.

Chmil dominated her opponent in the standup game, being technically sound and confident in her preparation for the fight, which earned her the decision win.

“I know what I’m capable of, so I’m just confident in my preparation,” Chmil said. “I changed everything in a sense of my mindset and I was told to get excited and be happy for every fight.”

In the main event, Williams threatened Deen with two early submissions in the first round. Deen, being the crafty vet, weathered the storm and made the fight dirty to earn the unanimous decision against the undefeated Williams.

Notable UFC fighters and coaches showed up for RUF 6,6 including names like Sean O’ Malley, Tim Welch, Benson Henderson and Drakkar Klose.
