Earlier today, the Pacific Tigers (1-5) faced off against the Indiana Hoosiers (6-2) in the Littlewood Invitational, just the fourth matchup ever between these two teams.
It was pretty clear from the start that the Hoosiers had the edge thanks to a two run home run by senior catcher Avery Parker in the first inning. This, along with four dominant innings by sophomore pitcher Jasmine Reyes, led to a 8-0 Hoosiers victory over the Tigers.
It was the first inning that really set the tone for the game. After Pacific put up a zero in the top half of the inning, Indiana scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.
Parker, who was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team last season, mashed a two-run home run that started the scoring. This was Parker's first home run of the season as well as her first runs batted in.
Junior utility player Mannon Brooke would then single through the left side of the infield to score freshman outfielder Jada Ellison from second base.
The Hoosiers didn’t slow down after those three runs. Indiana would proceed to score five more runs, with four of them coming in the fourth inning and one coming in the fifth.
The fourth inning featured a two-run double to left center field by junior utility player Aly VanBrandt as well as another two-run double to left center by junior utility player Alex Cooper.
After just four innings, the Hoosiers found themselves up by seven. In the fifth inning, Indiana would score its eighth and final run of the game thanks to sophomore outfielder Peyton Drummond, who tripled to left field to drive in the run.
But, it wouldn’t be fair to only talk about the offense. Only one run would’ve been enough thanks to a dominant performance by Reyes and the Hoosiers pitching.
Reyes picked up her first win of the season in four shutout innings of work allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out three at the plate.
As a freshman in 2025, Reyes made the Softball America Freshmen to Watch List. The California native pitched three complete games in 67.1 innings pitched and racked up a 5.20 ERA in her freshman year.
The outstanding performance by Reyes was finished off by a one-two-three inning by freshman pitcher Aubree Hooks to complete the shutout in five innings.
On the other side of things, it was not a great game for the Tigers.
Sophomore pitcher Kaytee Dahlstrom struggled in her three innings of work, allowing six hits and seven runs, six of them earned. Dahlstrom also issued three walks on the day.
After Dahlstrom was removed, junior pitcher Ariel Nava threw 1 ⅓ innings and allowed two hits and the game-sealing run.
Overall, Indiana finished with eight runs on eight hits, while Pacific was kept off the scoreboard with three hits.
In the previous three matchups between the two, the Tigers prevailed in all of them. However, the Hoosiers showed today that a lot can change in 13 years.
