Sun Devils score six straight, defeat Lindenwood

TEMPE, Ariz.-  Arizona State University looked to get the early lead in its two matchups with Lindenwood University and did just that, winning its first game decisively 6-0 on Feb. 5.

ASU did a great job applying pressure for most of the first period, leaving LU no time to get an offensive push going early.

“When there’s a bit of a lull on the bench, you can feel that on the ice. We gotta keep that energy up,” ASU’s Kate Streek said.

ASU’s Mara Draper played faster than anyone else on the ice, constantly getting good looks on goal, but LU did a great job of keeping extra bodies in front of the goal, not letting anything through.

Lindenwoods Devyn Doti was visibly upset after failing to capitalize on a one-on-one look with less than a min in the first period.

ASU’s defender Ruby Deliz kept her spirits up most of the game.

LU goalie Erica Didocha did a great job of keeping the puck out, keeping the game scoreless in the first period despite ASU’s 20 shots on goal.

The Sun Devils did a great job creating scoring chances for their teammates, but poor vision from the puck handler, paired with strong on-puck defense from the Rams, kept it close heading into the second.

LU’s Kirsten Martinez had a good clear to keep pressure away after three shots on goal in a row from the Sun Devils.

A powerful second period from Breanne Powell, scoring twice, helped ASU go up 4-0 on LU.

The first penalty of the game came from the Rams, Brynn Carter. On the power play, the Sun Devils did a good job capitalizing on the opportunity.

ASU’s Sam Murphy and Sophia Sears did a great job applying pressure, which led to Kylie Brown with the easy tap-in on the women's advantage.

Both teams played relatively nicely for most of the game.

After a cross-checking penalty from the Rams’ Kyrsten Martinez, the Sun Devils were on another power play, and Powell was able to get her second goal of the night, and for Murphy, her second assist.

With 1:39 left in the second, ASU got on the board after a shot from Page Ryan went right between the Rams' goalie Didocha’s legs

The Sun Devils started the third period hot after Jorja Dezainde fired a goal right by Didochas's blocker to bring the lead to five.

Didocha got lucky after ASU’s Evelyn Olsen had a great look, but it rang off the crossbar and bounced out.

The Sun Devils consistently intercepted passes, forcing the Rams into unfavorable positions.

The Sun Devils never let off the gas pedal, applying constant pressure all the way down until the final buzzer, winning 6-0.

LU’s goalie, Didocha, did a good job halting potential scoring opportunities from ASU with under 5 min left in the game, with numerous glove saves.

The Sun Devils put up 58 shots on goal compared to the Rams' 17.

“Tomorrow we're definitely gonna have a better game.” Emma Coxworthy said.
