LUBBOCK, Texas — It was Senior Day for No. 20 Texas Tech (25-6, 12-6 Big 12) women's basketball as they hosted Arizona State (22-9, 9-9 Big 12) at United Supermarkets Arena on Sunday, March 1.

A cold shooting performance, along with minimal bench production, doomed ASU in Sunday's game, as the Red Raiders hit shots in all areas of the floor at a higher rate than the Sun Devils. All of that added up to a 58-51 final score in favor of Texas Tech and the ninth loss of the season for ASU.

Poor shooting plagued the Sun Devils on Sunday. ASU went 19-52 (36.5%) from the field and 4-17 (23.5%) from beyond the arc, while the Red Raiders went 18-42 (42.9%) from the field and 6-21 (28.6%) from distance.

No matter how the stats are sliced, Texas Tech had the clear shooting advantage on Sunday.

Texas Tech also outpaced the Sun Devils when it came to bench production. ASU had eight total points off the bench today, while the Red Raiders scored 20 bench points. The -12 differential from the reserves proved to be vital, and a solid day from the Sun Devils bench might have flipped Sunday’s script.

Texas Tech also took advantage of turnovers at a higher rate on Sunday. Even though ASU turned the ball over less, the Sun Devils only scored 13 points off of 21 Red Raiders turnovers. In contrast, Texas Tech managed to score 20 points off of 17 ASU turnovers.

The end of the third quarter served as the main turning point. With the Sun Devils ahead 36-35 with 4:02 left to play in the period, the Red Raiders went on a 12-0 run and took an 11-point lead into the fourth and final quarter.

Junior guard/forward Jalynn Bristow shined on Sunday, scoring 18 points and going 6-for-8 from the field, 2-for-3 from three point range and 4-for-4 on free throws.

On the other side, graduate guard Gabby Elliott led the ASU offense with 15 points, but struggled with efficiency, going 5-for-17 from the field.

Now, both teams will head to the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday, March 4, with the Sun Devils set to face arch-rival Arizona in game three of the first round.

Texas Tech received a first-round bye and will play in the second round on Thursday, March 5, awaiting the winner of the first-round matchup between Kansas State and Cincinnati.
