Things weren’t looking good for Arizona State heading into the top of the seventh inning.

The Sun Devils found themselves down to their final three outs, trailing 3-2 against No. 15 seed Texas A&M in the Bryan-College Station Regional.

Junior right-handed pitcher Sidne Peters silenced the ASU bats all game and just needed to do so for one more inning.

Senior shortstop, Brooklyn Ulrich, led off the seventh with a double, avoiding the tag on a throw that beat her to second base.

Ulrich’s double sparked a rally, allowing the Sun Devils to flip the script and push the Aggies to the brink of elimination.

ASU scored twice in the seventh to stun Texas A&M 4-3 on Saturday, May 16, at Davis Diamond.

Senior center fielder Kaylee Pond delivered the game-tying hit.

With runners at the corner and one out, Pond ripped a single to left-center field to make it a 3-3 game.

Junior third baseman Emily Schepp then delivered the go-ahead RBI with an RBI fielder’s choice before senior right-handed pitcher Kenzie Brown finished off the Aggies in the bottom of the seventh.

Brown and Peters both delivered in the circle.

Each pitcher gave up an early two-run homer, but they both settled in, and the score remained 2-2 until Texas A&M scored in the bottom of the fourth.

Both teams had chances to put more runs on the board in the fifth inning.

The Sun Devils had runners on first and second in the top of the fifth, only for junior catcher Samantha Swan to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Similarly, in the bottom of the fifth, the Aggies had runners at first and third, but senior second baseman Tallen Edwards lined into a double play to end the inning.

ASU got another opportunity to score in the seventh and got the clutch hits it needed.

Pond had the game-tying hit and reached twice, and Schepp went 3-for-3 and had the game-winning RBI.

Additionally, junior first baseman Katie Chester hit her 20th home run of the season, one shy of tying the program record of 21, set by infielder Cydney Sanders in 2022.

Texas A&M’s home run leader also hit one out.

Senior second baseman Micaela Wark homered in the first to drive in the game’s first two runs moments after an illegal pitch was called on Brown.

Also, junior designated player Mya Perez reached base three times, extending her nation-long on-base streak to 58 games, a streak that dates back to last season.

Perez is the only player in Division I softball to reach base in every game this season.

Despite Perez extending her streak, the Aggies came up short and now have to win three games in a row.

ASU is one win from its first Super Regional appearance since 2022, the program’s final season under current Texas A&M head coach Trisha Ford.

The Sun Devils will get two opportunities on Sunday, May 17, to punch their ticket including a rematch with Texas A&M.
