Arizona State softball keeps on rolling.

The Sun Devils won their ninth game in a row to advance to the Austin Super Regional, where they will play the No. 2 seed Texas Longhorns.

ASU, playing as the home team on Sunday, May 17, scored early and often, with senior shortstop Brooklyn Ulrich delivering the dagger on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to eliminate No. 15 seed Texas A&M, winning 9-1 in five innings at Davis Diamond to win the Bryan-College Station Regional.

With the win, ASU advances to its first Super Regional since 2022.

The Aggies started junior right-handed pitcher Sidne Peters, who pitched well against the Sun Devils until the seventh inning on Saturday, May 16.

This time around, ASU got to Peters early, scoring two runs in the first inning against the All-SEC Second Team pitcher.

In the second inning, Texas A&M switched to sophomore left-hander Kate Munnerlyn, but the pitching change didn’t stop the Sun Devils’ momentum.

After the Aggies scored in the top of the second, ASU responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the second.

The third run came on a great slide by senior center fielder Kaylee Pond, who raced home on a ground ball by junior third baseman Emily Schepp and slid around the tag on a throw that appeared to beat Pond to the plate.

Pond’s play put the Sun Devils up 5-1 after two innings, but ASU gave Texas A&M an opportunity to respond.

After junior right-hander Meika Lauppe pitched the first two innings, the Sun Devils brought in senior left-hander Aissa Silva in the third.

Silva walked the first two batters of the inning before ASU called on senior right-hander Kenzie Brown, who pitched a complete game on Saturday, to get out of the inning.

Brown recorded three straight outs to escape the third inning and stayed in for the final two innings of the game.

Leading 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Sun Devils loaded the bases with nobody out for Ulrich, who hit the walk-off grand slam to trigger the run-rule and send ASU to the Super Regional.

The Sun Devils extended their win streak to nine games, a streak that started in the final series of the regular season against BYU and continued into the postseason.

Due in part to injuries, ASU finished with a 11-13 record in Big 12 play and found itself in danger of not even making the Big 12 Tournament.

Since then, the now-healthy Sun Devils have found their winning ways.

ASU won the Big 12 Tournament, knocking off each of the top three seeds to claim the title, before knocking off Texas A&M twice in College Station.

This year marks the second consecutive home regional exit for the Aggies, who were shocked twice by Liberty as the No. 1 overall seed last season.

For the Sun Devils, they will return to Texas next weekend, heading to Austin for a Super Regional matchup with Texas.

ASU is now two wins away from advancing to its first Women’s College World Series since 2018, but are tasked with taking down the defending national champions to get there.
