Heading into Wednesday night’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, all the headlines were around the health of Inter Miami’s blockbuster summer signing, Lionel Messi. The Argentine attacker had missed a string of games recently, and just hours before kickoff, Miami’s lineup was released with no sign of him on the team sheet. This was a huge sigh of relief for the Houston Dynamo, and paired with the absence of key defender Jordi Alba, gave the visiting side the final jolt in its 2-1 victory.

13-19. That was how the ASU Sun Devils ended their 2022 season. A season to forget, and one that ended with the parting of ways with the head coach, a large number of players entering the transfer portal, and many questions surrounding the future of the team. During the offseason, a new head coach was hired, along with a brand new coaching staff, and a whole new team outlook. Nine players returned, and six new players joined, rounding out the team at 15. New head coach JJ Van Niel, formerly the associate head coach at USC for five seasons, stressed the importance of team chemistry and camaraderie as soon as he arrived in the spring and continued that message through the summer and preseason.

What happened to the Denver Broncos? Since joining the league in 1975, the Broncos have only suffered 11 losing seasons. They have built a foundation of success and a standard of excellence, culminating with three Super Bowls. Broncos country expects nothing else other than winning. Some of the NFL’s greats have suited up in orange from John Elway, Peyton Manning, Terrel Davis, Shannon Sharpe, Ed Mccaffrey, Von Miller and the list can go on. That’s why Sunday’s beatdown of 70-20 to the Miami Dolphins is all but more embarrassing for this storied franchise.

For nearly 150 years, Football and the small town of South Bend, Indiana, have been nearly synonymous with each other. From the incredible talent and legendary coaches to its nationwide significance as a pop culture phenomenon, the football played on the University of Notre Dame campus has been embedded in the history of college football for nearly as long as the sport has been relevant in America. However, in recent years, the Fighting Irish have been just as well known as a disappointment as a powerhouse in the sport.

When the 2023 Formula 1 season started, Alpha Tauri had a driver pairing of then 22-year-old Yuki Tsunoda, entering his third year in the top flight of motorsports, and 28-year-old F1 rookie, Nyck de Vries. Despite being an older rookie in F1, de Vries wasn’t seen as an easy opponent for Tsunoda. It was expected that both teammates would push each other and that de Vries might even edge out Tsunoda for the team’s top spot. However, expectations don’t always come to fruition. De Vries was subbed out for Daniel Riccardo, who then was replaced by Liam Lawson due to an injury. Riccardo will race alongside Tsunoda last year, but a Lawson-Tsunoda pairing makes much more sense.
